MONTEREY JAZZ FESTIVAL Michael Piazza took this shot of Dave Ellis and me. I like the way he captured our reflections in the piano.
SAN JOSE JAZZ FESTIVAL The Dmitri Matheny Orchestra headlined opening night at the San Jose Repertory Theater, with guest soloists Red Holloway and Kim Nalley.
Three gorgeous girls backstage at the San Jose Jazz Festival [L-R]: Clairdee, Ruth Davies and Kim Nalley.
Penumbra recording session, Bay Records, Berkeley, California. [L-R]: Dave Ellis, Dmitri Matheny, Orrin Keepnews, Bill Douglass, Kenny Wollesen, John Heller
I have no idea why I was wandering around North Beach with my horn in the middle of the night, but I think it had something to do with Rob Scheps.
I love to perform concerts in planetariums. This photo was taken at Chabot Space & Science Center, Oakland.
Vocalist Ann Dyer and I created an annual series of concerts "under the stars" at the Morrison Planetarium.
FLORENCE GOULD THEATER Tango dancers Catherine Conway and Roger Hart, Penumbra CD Release Concert, San Francisco, California
When Mr. Eastwood was Mayor of Carmel, he would sometimes come to our concerts at the Jazz & Blues Company. He's a musician, a big jazz supporter, and a very warm, down to earth gentleman, but his steely gaze never failed to intimidate the entire band.
Amina Figarova, Ruth Davies, Buckshot Strik, Bart Platteau and Dmitri Matheny in concert, Palm Springs, California.
SF JAZZ & WINE FESTIVAL Dmitri Matheny Group [L-R]: Alex Candelaria, Dmitri Matheny, Bill Douglass, Dave Ellis, Robert Kaufman
The Athenaeum is a hip, clubby music and arts library in La Jolla, California - one of our favorite intimate rooms on tour. This is a rare trio appearance with Ruth Davies and the late Smith Dobson, a great musician and friend.
Ruth Davies, Eddie Marshall and I performed with the San Francisco Symphony at Davies Symphony Hall. I snapped this on the way in. What an ominous fascade!
PALO ALTO JAZZ ALLIANCE Dr. Herb Wong produced this concert at the Cubberley Theater: Bart Platteau, Dmitri Matheny, Akira Tana, Ruth Davies, Amina Figarova.
A nice audience shot from one of our annual SnowCat concerts for kids at the Bay Area Discovery Museum. Photo credit: Scott Chernis.
This young musician at a San Francisco elementary school produced a surprisingly clear and bright trumpet tone.
Our neighbor in the Berkeley Hills. He came to one of our concerts and remarked, about pianist Amina Figarova, "Amazing...she plays like she has ten hands."
My all time favorite Tom Kwas photo. I was a little irritated that Peter Klabunde, our art director, made us get up before sunrise, but I'll never question his vision again. Looking at this image makes me miss San Francisco deeply.
Tom Kwas [photographer], Peter Klabunde [art director] and I crept around in the shadows South of Market until we had this shot, the cover image for Nocturne.
My buddy Tom Kwas came all the way from Milwaukee to shoot these great portraits at the Golden Gate Bridge.

SFJAZZ SPRING SEASON Josh Redman and I gave a talk at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, San Francisco, California
