HOT FUN IN THE SUMMERTIME
Even as we enjoy these winter rains, we're already looking forward to this summer's tours and residencies in the San Francisco Bay Area (June 1-30), Pacific Northwest (July 10-20), and California Coast (July 21-26)! Plenty of workshops, concerts, festivals, club appearances and more.
VINTAGE VIBE
Looking forward to playing this spectacular San Francisco venue,
the Regency Center Lodge, on February 2nd!
CONGRATULATIONS SFJAZZ

Congratulations to SFJAZZ on the grand opening of the spectacular new SFJAZZ Center, and thanks for including my name among the San Francisco Jazz Festival artists etched on the window.
BUCKSHOT RUBAIYAT
Our February 16th show at 57th Street Gallery in Oakland will include the premiere of my latest composition, "Buckshot Rubaiyat." The new work is dedicated to the late Bruno Mooshei, legendary proprietor of the Persian Aub Zam Zam (above) in San Francisco.
Bruno died over a decade ago, but we remember him fondly, especially during the cocktail hour.

FROM THE ARCHIVES - On MLK's Birthday
I wonder what Dr. King would think of American society in 2013.
Would he be pleased by the election and re-election of President Obama?
Would he be gratified that race relations have improved overall?
Or would he be heartbroken to learn that race, class and income disparities continue to divide us?
I hope he would be heartened by the awareness that—at least among many of us—his dream is still very much alive.

TONIGHT in Scottsdale AZ
Join the Dmitri Matheny Group TONIGHT, Thursday 12/13 @ 7:30 PM (MST), as we conclude our Jazz Noir tour of the western states at Sacred Grounds Jazz Coffeehouse in Scottsdale AZ.
The concert features Dmitri Matheny on flugelhorn, Andrew Gross tenor saxophone, Nick Manson piano, Ted "T-Bone" Sistrunk bass and John Lewis drums.
We're putting a fresh spin on familiar themes from film noir (Touch of Evil, Laura, Chinatown, Vertigo, Taxi Driver, Blues in the Night and more), plus jazz classics, new works and beloved standards from the Great American Songbook. Highlights will include our popular "Crime Scenes" suite (with hard-boiled voiceover narration in the style of Dashiel Hammett and Raymond Chandler) and a special memorial tribute to the great Dave Brubeck.
